Programming, Inventory, & Questionnaire

The majority of the day was spent documenting the space. My IPD team and I began by identifying all equipment, furnishings, and fixtures present in the space. This was documented using an excel spreadsheet, which worked well to organize the information.

In addition to the inventory, a program document was developed to further explain and document the space. The program included such areas as design questions, existing conditions, spatial needs, precedents, concepts, and references.

In an effort to provide a thorough analysis of existing space and understanding of expectations of its users, a questionnaire was drafted. The questionnaire contains the following questions:

What challenges are presented with the storage of materials in the lounge area?
What activities does the lounge area accommodate?
What storage needs are met by the current space?
What storage needs are not met by the current space?
What adjectives would you use to describe the existing lounge space?
What adjectives would you use to describe the imagined future lounge space?
What color preferences do you have for the future lounge space and furniture within?
What activities should the future lounge space and furniture accommodate?
What items will be displayed in this space?
What do you consider to be the boundaries of the lounge area? Explain.
Using a few words describe the atmosphere you anticipate the new space and furniture encompassing.
